OUR STORY
In 1993 the owner of a local independent record store started a small alternative music festival in Wright Park. The store was Mother Records, and that guy was Ken Johnson. Ken would play a role in the festival throughout the years, as the show would have its ups and downs, eventually evolving from Music in the Park to Music and Art in Wright Park LLC (MAWP Tacoma). After 25 years the Music and Art in Wright Park Festival has ceased planning for future events. This may be a temporary hiatus or an indefinite sabbatical. It has been a great run, and we appreciate all the fans, bands, vendors and sponsors who have made this such a great show and rewarding experience in our lives. Your contributions have been overwhelming at times, and we can't thank you all enough. |
Although the show is over, there still may be some more gas in the tank over here at the MAWP Offices. We are playing around with some ideas and developing some projects. There are some resources lying around here and we want to find ways to continue to promote and support local independent and original music.
We are definitely working on more local music compilations... We have some local music related Podcasts in the works... Here on the website we are refocusing attention on the local Creators Archive... And maybe we will dabble in some smaller shows next year if things go well, but there are no plans in the works for this at the moment. Whatever the future holds, we will continue to strive towards a goal of preserving and promoting as much local music as we can, and we hope you continue to be a part of our development during these exciting transitions.
